IndX is supporting one of Italy's most prominent Food & Beverage companies in their latest logistics initiative. With a legacy spanning over 60 years, our customer primarily produces dairy essentials like milk, yogurt and cheeses, although their offering has expanded to include dry pasta, deli meats and vegetable-based foods. This leading dairy player has established a robust presence throughout Italy and across international markets, including multiple production plants and a dedicated logistics division specialized in fresh and non-perishable food distribution. The company is a long-time digital transformation customer of IndX for Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) solutions, and our team of supply chain experts is aiding them in expanding their reach in Swiss markets through the development of a new logistics platform.
The Customer’s Need
Working with this customer since 2005, our IndX experts have been providing back-end support for the WMS solutions we implemented across the customer’s logistics network many years ago. This includes 10 logistic distribution platforms in Italy, 7 logistic hubs in their production plants and 2 logistic distribution platforms located in other European countries. For their new venture into the Swiss market, the dairy leader aimed to add another platform to their extensive network and establish a logistics framework capable of serving all Swiss cantons efficiently. Through this initiative, the customer also sought to create a scalable WMS model that could be implemented globally, which would in turn strengthen the presence of their Italian brands.
- Establish a logistics platform dedicated to serving the Swiss market
- Efficiently distribute “Made in Italy” products to all Swiss cantons
- Integrate new solution with customer’s logistics distribution network
- Define a scalable WMS model that can be implemented globally
- Strengthen the presence of the customer’s brand worldwide
About the Project
Our supply chain experts initiated the project with a comprehensive As-Is analysis, conducting on-site assessments at the customer’s Italian facilities to assess existing logistics processes. This was followed by a To-Be analysis, where our team mapped current processes within the new WMS framework, ensuring alignment with the customer's best practices and scalability goals. Throughout this process, our specialists consulted key stakeholders to optimize logistics processes and workflows of the new platform.
The solution we delivered is a cutting-edge, flexible and scalable distribution and WMS platform designed to meet diverse business needs. Built on an Oracle database, it features a next-generation web-based interface with responsive design, ensuring seamless compatibility across multiple devices. The platform supports both industrial and consumer tablet terminals, offering a user-friendly, browser-based experience. Additionally, it integrates seamlessly with critical warehouse technologies, including labelers, barcode scanners, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, transportation management systems and file exchange systems for third-party logistics (3PLs), creating an interconnected and efficient logistics ecosystem. After a successful deployment of the platform at the customer’s plant in Switzerland, our team continues to provide application maintenance support, ensuring a smooth transition for operators across the logistics network.
