IndX is continuing a long-term collaboration with a crop science innovator to accelerate enterprise-wide digital transformation for manufacturing. Our customer is a global leader tackling the world’s biggest challenges in the life science fields of healthcare and agriculture. For over 150 years, the company has worked towards implementing the most advanced technologies to help farmers, patients and consumers achieve better results faster. During this next phase of development, IndX’s Innovation Lab team is working at a key U.S. facility to implement and integrate a new, custom Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
The Customer’s Need
As part of an effort to standardize across all their crop science facilities in Europe and North America, the customer requested our support to upgrade their supporting MES technology. Our experts will migrate production processes to OneMES, a tailored solution which our IndX Innovation Lab team is building on Siemens Opcenter. The launch site for this solution is a U.S. facility that formulates, packages and distributes herbicides and pesticides that serve the North American agriculture market. Its role in the enterprise’s greater production and supply chain network is vital. This project requires efficient and seamless implementation with minimal disruptions to production, and Engineering IndX must ensure high-quality output and regulatory compliance while improving system integration, data visibility and process control.
- Standardize MES systems across global crop science facilities to align with a unified digital manufacturing approach
- Migrate production processes from a legacy technology to new OneMES solution
- Ensure a smooth transition with minimal production disruption while maintaining output quality and regulatory compliance
- Optimize manufacturing operations through improved system integration, data visibility and process control
- Launch the initial implementation at a high-impact site critical to North American herbicide and pesticide distribution
About the Project
The customer currently operates on a legacy MES platform known as BAYCOMS. While our primary focus is transitioning to OneMES, several key applications still reside on BAYCOMS that the customer aims to incorporate into the new system. Among the most critical is the customer’s own Technical Plant Reporting (TPR) application, which plays a central role in managing production schedules, process orders, inventory tracking, operational reporting and other core manufacturing activities. The project kicked off with our technical experts gathering requirements and hosting design workshops in collaboration with key stakeholders. Next, they created a thorough plan for migrating this software which can be scaled across future sites. From there, our specialists began developing the solution.
While preparing the OneMES solution for Go-Live, our IndX Innovation Lab team is upgrading Opcenter’s server for development and quality assurance environments. We are also providing automation services and implementing a user interface to track messages sent for more organized communication. Additionally, our specialists are integrating SAP Broker, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution, to harmonize operations across multiple North American sites. By onboarding and integrating the customer’s U.S. facility with the OneMES framework, Engineering IndX is enabling access to agile squads, sprint ceremonies, documentation and support.
