About the Customer

Our team is excited to be part of a ground-breaking digital transformation initiative for a new customer and a rising name when it comes to innovation. The customer is an Automotive Manufacturing startup headquartered in Vietnam that aims to shake up the market and specializes in the application of the latest technologies and state-of-the-art features for gasoline automobiles, electric motorcycles, electric scooters and electric commercial vehicles in Asia and around the world.

The Customer’s Challenge

As a startup, the customer wanted to hit the ground running right away. They knew that to gain a competitive advantage and foothold in the automotive market, they had to manufacture the highest-quality vehicles in the fastest and most efficient way for the consumer and the business. They wanted to realize the first Digital Factory in Southeast Asia - fully automated, interconnected and smart - and they aimed to do it in record time.

The customer partnered with Siemens for the supply of all the technology systems and components they needed to manufacture electric cars and electric scooters, an essential element of the country’s sustainable transportation sector. Siemens supplied the tools and systems the customer would need to cover the entire lifecycle of their products and processes in their new $1.5 billion plant, including:

But now that the customer had the software needed to achieve paperless “closed-loop” manufacturing, they needed the right implementation partner and system integrator to make those systems work together for their specific production environment. A leading global hub for all things Industry 4.0, Engineering Group’s Industries eXcellence division was called in to deliver on the Digital Manufacturing aspect of the customer’s ambitious 21-month greenfield digitalization initiative.

About the Project

Engineering’s Engineering Industries eXcellence division was brought into this project by Siemens and the customer for a number of reasons:

  1. Our deep knowledge of automotive manufacturing and assembly processes.
  2. Our unmatched technical competence in Siemens’ end-to-end Manufacturing Operations Management product offering.
  3. Our expertise in Industrial Automation & Control.
  4. Our experience integrating Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, particularly SAP.

Leveraging Siemens Opcenter Execution Discrete, the Engineering team led the design, development and deployment of a full-featured MOM solution on the customer’s production floor, with customized applications for the automation and optimization of:

  • Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • Production Order Management & Execution
  • Manufacturing Quality & Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Press Shop & Plastic Components Production Management
  • Production Line Monitoring System (LMS)
  • MES Integration to ERP (SAP)

Engineering's Advantage

Producing vehicles in a greenfield automotive factory in less than two years is unprecedented. However, the customer had vision and wanted to be competitive in regional and global markets right from the beginning, so they relied on the proven technology of Siemens along with the world’s leading implementation and integration partners for Industry 4.0, including Engineering. With the critical expertise in automotive processes and industrial automation needed for this initiative, our team is proud to be contributing to what will result in a true closed-loop manufacturing process and a fully digitalized factory founded on efficiency, quality, and designed to be scalable for future expansions. We look forward to the successful delivery of this project as well as to further expansion of our global business across the South East Asian market.
