About the Customer
Engineering Industries eXcellence has begun an exciting new digital transformation project for the Water, Energy & Utilities industry. Our customer is an Italian multi-utility leader that operates in integrated water services, collective urban services, environmental hygiene management and sustainable energy sourcing. Every year, the customer serves nearly 1 million residents and 40 million tourists across Italy. Seeking more centralized control of their enterprise operations, the water distribution leader chose Engineering Industries eXcellence to implement Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions and optimize their data and asset management services across their Italian sites.

The Customer’s Need
Born from the merger of heterogeneous companies in terms of processes and technology, the customer sought new solutions that would help centralize asset monitoring and data management without impacting peripheral control systems. These solutions would contribute to the company’s broader digital transformation strategy, which aims to leverage innovation and the principles of Industry 4.0 for business growth. As a result, the water distribution leader could redefine their operational models, enhance working conditions, increase sustainability, and improve productivity and production quality. Engineering Industries eXcellence was chosen to identify, implement and integrate the right solutions with the customer’s existing industrial automation ecosystem.

About the Project
This complex digital transformation project was divided into three phases:
- Industry 4.0 assessments
- Solution design and implementation
- Holistic system integration
In the first phase, our expert consultants conducted Industry 4.0 Assessments of the systems in place across the customer’s sites, identified the best solutions for their business and created an implementation plan in collaboration with key stakeholders. Engineering’s proprietary Digital Virtualization Experience (DiVE) Suite was identified as the best technology platform to meet the customer’s complex requirements and business goals.
In the next phase, our technical team worked closely with the business process experts to blueprint, design and develop a comprehensive IIoT solution for the customer. This included the establishment of a cloud database on the DiVE platform to enable centralized asset and data monitoring, as well as a progressive integration of peripheral systems for the management of drinking and waste water.
In the third phase, our integration specialists utilized DiVE MAPs and DiVE Early Warning, which enable real-time performance monitoring and anomaly detection, to enhance Key Performance Indicator (KPI) tracking, early warning logic and predictive maintenance capabilities. After a successful launch of the DiVE Suite across the customer’s sites, the project was extended to integrate the centralized monitoring of a shared pipeline with other regional operators.
