Engineering Industries eXcellence is supporting Industry 4.0 transformation for a multinational manufacturer in the Retail & Consumer Goods industry. Our customer is known for their wide range of consumer products across the food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and personal care sectors, as well as their commitment to sustainability and social responsibility in their production processes. For this digitalization initiative, our Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) teams in Europe are upgrading the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) of one of the customer’s famous food brands to enable automation and operational flexibility.

As a renowned industry innovator with a worldwide presence, our customer recognizes the pivotal role of embracing digital technologies to enhance production capacity for global distribution. In the pursuit of a cutting-edge MES, the consumer goods manufacturer aspires to instill process flexibility, expand manufacturing capabilities and acquire out-of-the-box (OOTB) functionalities from a new solution. Their vision includes reducing manual efforts through automated performance reporting and forecasting, as well as achieving cost-effective customization through configuration. The customer is also determined to streamline and expedite their process, turning it into a catalyst for increased productivity.

About the Project
The customer’s digitalization journey began when they selected Siemens Opcenter Execution Process as their ideal MES. As a longstanding Smart Expert partner of Siemens Digital Industries across their innovative software portfolio, our MOM teams were brought in to conduct assessments of the customer’s current manufacturing ecosystem and plan a seamless implementation of the new solution.
With an abundance of OOTB functionalities, Siemens Opcenter will empower the customer to monitor real-time work-in-progress, resources and activities on the factory floor. It facilitates tracking equipment performance for maintenance management, automates data collection to eliminate paper-based processes and drives efficiencies across the end-to-end manufacturing process. Tailored for the industries in which they operate, Siemens Opcenter is a highly configurable MES that our customer can implement at various sites to connect their enterprise operations.
Currently, our experts are creating a Functional Design Specification (FDS), which describes the customer’s “as-is” manufacturing process and outlines specific “to-be” process improvements. Taking the Project Management lead, our team will next design and implement the new Manufacturing Execution System, integrating it with the customer’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Upon a successful project delivery, we will be able to reuse our MES solution template for additional customer sites worldwide, enabling significant savings in implementation time and costs.
