Engineering Industries eXcellence’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) team is completing an exciting new project for a global Aerospace, Space & Defense Manufacturing customer in North America. The customer designs and manufactures world-leading aerospace products for different markets ranging from military defense to civil security. Their areas of expertise include aeronautics, weapon systems, sensors, command and control systems. For this project, our Engineering Industries eXcellence experts are delivering a holistic solution combining the power of digital PLM for complex product data management with the latest security protocol integrations, proving that the benefits of digital transformation can be realized without sacrificing the security of a company’s most critical intellectual data.

The Customer's Need
In the business of manufacturing, nothing is more valuable than a company’s product and process data. And nowhere is the security of such information more critical than in the aerospace manufacturing industry. This is not only due to the prominent role that aerospace manufacturers play in supplying the government defense and critical infrastructure sectors, but also because this unique role makes them one of the most highly targeted industries by external threats and cyberattacks.
When Engineering Industries eXcellence’s team came in to support this project, the customer had decided to implement Siemens Teamcenter, the world’s most widely used PLM software, in order to optimize their product development processes by consolidating, standardizing and managing the increasing complexity of their growing business’s engineering and manufacturing product data within one digital solution. At the same time, the customer needed to ensure that the digitalization of their data management processes would be executed in a highly secure manner and in compliance with all corporate and industry regulations.

About the Project
As a Smart Expert Partner for the entire digital manufacturing offering of Siemens Digital Industries, Engineering Industries eXcellence was brought in to lead the customer’s initial adoption of Rapid Start, Teamcenter’s out-of-the-box product data management application. The tool, designed for fast deployment with flexibility for future extensions, comes preconfigured to enable users to find, design and re-use product designs and data easily and quickly.
After the successful delivery of the application, and thanks to the customer’s confidence in both the product and our expertise, the project was extended to cover a full Teamcenter implementation. The goal was to enable the aerospace leader to gain even more business value from the PLM solution by taking advantage of its other enterprise capabilities, including the integration of their existing multi-CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tool to the PLM database.
Finally, PLM security was of the highest importance to this initiative. The customer needed to secure their lifecycle management process and safeguard valuable product information being managed within PLM. In order to protect critical data from internal and external threats and cybercrime, our team is finalizing the deployment of their new PLM solution together with Teamcenter Security Services, an application that our experts have customized to meet the customer’s unique SSO (Single Sign-On) and LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) requirements. As a result, users across departments will continue to be able to take full advantage of Teamcenter’s data management and collaboration features securely; at the same time, management will gain documented assurance that users accessing the system have the necessary authentications and authorizations to do so.
