Headquartered in Italy, the customer has designed, manufactured and installed innovative rail components for high-speed, regional and metropolitan trains across Europe and North America for over 30 years. The customer sought a digital solution to optimize product development processes as a starting point for a holistic data management strategy across their entire product lifecycle. The Customer’s Need
Focused on sustainability for the future of transportation, the customer sought enabling technologies to improve their overall efficiency, reduce waste, effectively utilize product data and create a seamless production process from design to final delivery. At the design level, the customer wanted a solution that could manage Engineering Bills of Materials (eBOMs) and integrate them with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools. At the production level, the solution needed to support order management and product development processes, as well as convert eBOMs into Manufacturing Bills of Materials (mBOMs) that synchronize with the customer's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Lastly, the desired solution needed to manage and track product changes throughout the entire lifecycle, all while lessening the burden of complexity on the workforce.

About the Project
After visiting the customer’s main facility in Italy to conduct Industry 4.0 Assessments and collaborate with key stakeholders across design and production processes, our experts created a business blueprint and implementation plan centered around the solution Siemens Teamcenter for Manufacturing. This highly configurable, user-friendly PLM system includes key applications such as Manufacturing Resource Library, BOM Management and Teamcenter Change Management, all of which will enable the customer to connect their workforce with the product and process knowledge needed to effectively function in a globally-oriented product lifecycle.
Our team will implement the solution through the gradual release of functional work packages at short interval phases. This agile rollout approach will ensure proper time for user training, minimize disruption to the customer's production and limit the risk of design issues. In the first phase, the out-of-the-box functions of the PLM system will be installed and configured based on the customer's unique production process requirements. Next, users will receive workshop training on the new processes and best practices of the solution. Potential issues will be assessed, and corrective actions taken during progress meetings. Implementation plans and goals will be monitored and reviewed through periodic meetings to ensure the successful implementation of the new PLM solution.
