About the Project

This February, Engineering's team of Manufacturing Execution System (MES) experts will complete validation and go-live with phase 1 of a Siemens Opcenter Execution Pharma (SIMATIC IT eBR) implementation for a large North American chemical and OTC pharmaceutical manufacturer. The first phase of the implementation will manage the pre-weighing process for one plant, with plans to roll the system out to four additional plants over the next few months.

Benefits of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)

The focus of the project is to use the MES to ensure that the right amount of the right material is weighed at the right time. In addition to providing these controls, the system will increase visibility by adding reporting and lot genealogy functionality that are critical to process and quality improvement. By using an MES platform to meet the phase 1 pre-weigh requirements, our customer will have built a solid digital foundation and left the door open to expanding the system to cover their compounding, packing and filling operations in later phases. This small bit of forethought will certainly pay off in reduced maintenance costs moving forward, since these future features will all be housed within a single flexible IT system.
