Engineering Industries eXcellence Unveils Digital Offering at Stanley Black & Decker’s "Manufactory 4.0"
April 11, 2019, Hartford, Connecticut, USA –
A global leader in the industrial tooling market, Stanley Black & Decker (SB&D) has just announced the opening of its 23,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Hartford, Connecticut. Called “Manufactory 4.0,” the facility will serve as the epicenter for the company’s global Industry 4.0 “smart factory” and workforce upskilling initiatives. To commemorate the new center’s opening, SB&D hosted an unveiling of the new facility, featuring Industry 4.0 systems the company has successfully adopted in recent initiatives, new technologies that the lab will be focusing on moving forward, as well as a showcase of how they can be implemented into SB&D facilities around the world in the years ahead. As one of the elite group of Industry 4.0 experts and partners that supported Stanley, Black & Decker’s Manufactory 4.0 initiative, Engineering Industries eXcellence’s team was invited to participate at the event.
“Engineering Industries eXcellence has always been committed to innovation and contributing to the advancement of American manufacturing. Our team is continuously looking to collaborate with start-ups, technology leaders, the world of academia, government institutions and manufacturers who see digital transformation as the best way to increase capabilities, improve efficiencies and promote manufacturing in the U.S. So, when Stanley, Black & Decker reached out to us about this new R&D center, we knew immediately that we wanted to be involved,” said Matt Scanlan, Associate Partner at Engineering Industries eXcellence. “The digital tools you see at today’s event are just the first step in helping to promote the implementation of these technologies at SB&D plants across North America and worldwide. As an organization, Stanley, Black & Decker is very forward-thinking. They see the value of Industry 4.0 and are at the forefront of embracing the latest technologies. Our team was proud to support the realization of Manufactory 4.0, and we look forward to continuing to follow Stanley, Black & Decker along their journey towards Industry 4.0.”
The purpose of the Manufactory 4.0 center is first to provide a physical testbed for new advanced technologies in the manufacturing space. In addition, the center will be a training facility where SB&D plant managers can come in order to learn about the latest technologies, capabilities and how they can apply them to their manufacturing facilities. To build Manufactory 4.0, SB&D was looking at all types of digital systems, including robotics, visions systems, as well as a digital backbone that could enable all of these different technologies to communicate and operate in a synchronized, seamless way. Our team of Industries eXcellence specialists was asked to develop this digital backbone, which included a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) from Rockwell Automation, Production Scheduling from sedApta Group, Manufacturing Simulation from Siemens PLM Software, as well as the full integration of all of these systems. Having established a strong footprint as a leading solution provider and system integrator for the entire spectrum of digital tools for manufacturing, Engineering Industries eXcellence’s team was excited to support the development of the technologies that transformed the vision of Manufactory 4.0 into a reality.
