Engineering’s software development team recently delivered an entirely customized software solution to an important Manufacturing Execution System (MES) vendor, which will insert the solution into its company’s portfolio.

The solution is a web-based order management system that aims at delivering a cost-effective solution for small and medium-sized shop floors and fulfills the basic needs of part manufacturing and machine shop management. The development process involved the utilization of new cutting-edge web technologies to provide a fresh and modern experience to the end users while reducing hardware requirements on both the server and the client machines to the absolute minimum all at the same time.

One of the key features of the job management tool is its capability to design and implement loadable modules that can be plugged and unplugged in real time to the application. This makes the platform highly customizable and expandable in many ways.

The goal of the software component is to deliver a user interface for order management and execution specifically designed for machine shops, while providing the following benefits:

  • Browser client application based on modern web technologies (HTML5)
  • Minimal hardware requirements footprint
  • Easy installation and configuration
  • Easy extensibility and “open” APIs to allow the customer to modify the product

The component is a lightweight order manager that leverages the MES vendor’s core functionalities and the power of web technologies to bring together the best of the two worlds. The result is a simple-to-use, easy-to-deploy, efficient web application with strong modularity and extensibility characteristics.

Given the positive feedback received by Engineering upon completing the project, a new update is being discussed to add integration with DNC systems in the near future.
