Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems have come to be recognized as an IT cornerstone of world-class manufacturing organizations. Teamcenter by Siemens is the world’s leading PLM solution whose capability to manage product data has been tested across all verticals, around the globe.

Building a PLM solution to handle any industry, business processes and use cases of its customers means introducing powerful development and customization tools; making the most of Teamcenter means leveraging these tools to create a highly configured environment matching the needs of the business and the end users.

While these tools offer flexibility, they also come with a high degree of complexity. Effectively configuring Teamcenter to match the organization requires a deep technical understanding of the software, and knowledge of PLM best practices that comes with firsthand experience.

Engineering has an expertise with Teamcenter that can help customers make PLM a strength of their manufacturing IT. Some common steps to bring Teamcenter to its full potential include:

  • Leverage a caching server with Store and Forward capability on an oil rig with slow and unreliable satellite network connectivity, allowing work to continue while files are being accessed.
  • Attach a Teamcenter form containing ERP data to all production items when they are created. Attach a custom icon to the form to make it easily recognizable to users.
  • Add a dataset type to represent CNC-code to be managed inside Teamcenter. Specify a preferred CNC-editor as the default tool for the new dataset.
  • Introduce government security clearances to the system and attach the required clearance level to sensitive data, restricting data access to the correct users.
  • Construct a workflow capturing a change request on a product specification, routing the request through a Standards manager for approval.
  • Write a query to return objects targeted for a change request, enabling fast access of relevant data for end users. Generate a stylized report on the objects subjected to the change request which includes all relevant information.
  • Set up a rule enforcing data to be named in a consistent and standardized way containing the Product Code, Engineering revision and date of creation.
  • Designers and engineers open CAx models directly from Teamcenter. After working in NX, models are automatically saved back into Teamcenter.
  • Customize the user interface view to include only the most common features and components for a specific organizational role.

Teamcenter has the pieces to perfectly fit your manufacturing organization; putting them together takes expertise and experience. Engineering is a proven partner who can help PLM take its place as a key to your IT structure.
