Our customer specializes in the manufacture of mission critical systems, aeronautics systems, space systems and defense services for the United States and its global allies. As one of the largest arms traders in the world, the defense manufacturer understands the value and impact of digital technologies in the industry. That is why they chose our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) team to lead a technology optimization initiative focused on integrating engineering design data with manufacturing processes at one of their U.S. facilities.

The Customer’s Need
As part of a broader strategy for digital transformation, the defense leader wants to deploy solutions that will connect their divisions around the world. Having already implemented Siemens Teamcenter at many of their product design facilities, they are eager to leverage the technology and its design data as a starting point for computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) at one of their production sites in the United States. Leveraging Teamcenter, the defense manufacturer aims to extend the capabilities of their current manufacturing systems, digitalize the shop floor, democratize data access, streamline communication and improve collaboration across domains.

About the Project
Engineering Industries eXcellence’s team was chosen as the defense leader’s strategic Industry 4.0 partner many years ago. Together, we helped them define their end-to-end digitalization vision across multiple processes, systems and departments. Now, our team is leading the execution of their Digital Thread solution roadmap across different divisions and sites.
At their U.S. manufacturing site, our PLM experts have completed requirements gathering, defined the use case for Siemens Teamcenter for Manufacturing and completed an analysis of their as-is vs. to-be solution. Going forward, our team will provide implementation services, including software installation, configuration and integration design to their home-grown Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Next, our PLM specialists will complete software training for the defense manufacturer’s user base, ensuring that the solution is left in capable hands and can perform at peak capacity.
