About the Customer

Amongst the globally recognizable names on our long list of customers, you would find many of the industry’s leading and biggest Aerospace & Defense manufacturers. And thanks to recent project developments, Engineering has added the name of a leading international space transportation service provider to that list. This month, our team will be starting a new initiative with one of the frontline space industry companies that is revolutionizing the future of space accessibility and exploration. This global company prides itself on a robust team of world-class astronauts, engineers, technicians, designers, controllers and many others who have dedicated their careers to pushing the boundaries of space technology.

About the Project

During our first project engagement, Engineering’s PLM group was called in to provide both consulting and training services to the customer related to their adoption of the Siemens Teamcenter for Manufacturing product offering. As a result, and thanks to the one-on-one training methodology and support of our experts, as the customer’s users got hands-on experience with the product, example manufacturing data was created in the company’s own environment and a good knowledge base was established.

However, many of the customer’s engineers also wanted an interactive software that promoted order management and focused on quality control, both of which are vital to the highly-regulated Aerospace & Defense industry. Specifically, they wanted a solution that allowed operators to review work instructions, perform data collections and execute non-conformance and red-lining right on the shop floor. Already knowledgeable in the customer’s processes and specific production environment, Engineering’s world-class team was called in again to lead this initiative.

This next project involves a pilot deployment of Opcenter Execution (SIMATIC IT) Production Suite, a sophisticated and scalable Manufacturing Execution System from Siemens. By implementing Opcenter Execution (SIMATIC IT) MES and integrating the new system with the customer’s existing Teamcenter for Manufacturing environment, Engineering will help the customer overcome many operational and management pain points, including:

  • Order scheduling & order management on the shop floor
  • Non-conformance and defect tracking made with red-lining, defect traceability, defect escalations & real-time supervisor notifications
  • Displaying work instructions, 2D and 3D visuals, animations & other supporting documentation to operators
  • Data collection definitions with regards to measurements, serializations, quality checks or first article inspections
  • Reporting & business analytics occurring at plant floor level

The Advantage

Opcenter Execution (SIMATIC IT) is a part of Siemens’ Digital Enterprise offering, a solution that supports the entire manufacturing value chain, from product development through production planning, production engineering and production execution to service. Under this umbrella, Opcenter Execution (SIMATIC IT) is specifically aimed to facilitate the realization phase, acting as the bridge between PLM and automation, executing production processes and managing production operations. By leveraging the entire Siemens product portfolio for our customers, Engineering bridges the gap between PLM and MES, closing the communication loop between design and production and enabling full transparency over the entire manufacturing process. As a result, we enable manufacturers to better plan the details, foresee and prevent problems, improve efficiency and become more flexible and adaptive to new demands and new ways of working.
